Location: Widespread throughout the UK, Scandinavia, Europe, Asia, North Africa (and parts of West Africa), USA
Habitat: Low vegetation, bushes, underside of rhubarb leaves and dustbins
Diet: Insects
Description: Female - Pale cephalothorax with narrow dark stripe. Abdomen rounded, smaller in males. Abdomen comes in three colour variants :
Pale greenish colour with two lines of black dots (lineata)
Pale colour with two parallel broad red stripes and black dotted lines (redimita)
Pale abdomen with single broad red band and dotted black lines (ovata)
Male - samaller and with larger chelicerae
Young - Black legs and cephalothorax, yellowish abdomen
Egg sac - round and stone grey
Facts: The common name for this species comes from it's red striping, although many refer to it by it's scientific name only.
